This guidance stems from the Court of Justice of the European Union's decision in the Fuhrmann-2 Case C-249/21 (April 2022).

Requirements for Payment Button Text​

  • Clarity: The text must clearly indicate the customer's obligation to pay.
  • Legibility: The text must be easily readable and unambiguous.
  • Suggested Text: The Court provided the example, "Order with obligation to pay". Merchants may use similar formulations that convey the same meaning.
